A person who suffers from gout (metabolic arthritis) should avoid high purine foods.
High purine foods in a diet can increase uric acid levels in the body and subsequently can cause gout, or worsen the condition. However, the high level of uric acid may not necessary mean a gout. Diagnosis of gout is essentially by clinical findings.
